Easter: Celebrating faith and hope wth fashion

Parishioners at area churches didn't just celebrate Easter by attending services - they celebrated through fashion.

"We're celebrating Christ and mulberry sale all things new and spring by getting a new dress for Easter every year," said Jeanette Martinson, Bourbonnais, of Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene. Jeanette's daughter Lucy Martinson, 7, wore a pink polka dot dress bought with Sunday's 10:30 a.m. service in mind.

Many Easter Sunday churchgoers agreed that in order to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the new beginnings that come with Easter and spring they had to look the part. Light colors, delicate fabrics, new clothes and old favorite outfits all came out as a way of showing respect for the holiday.

"I've been waiting to wear it," said Karrie Mitchell, of Bonfield, of the floral print skirt, frilly white shirt and tan shrug ensemble she wore to the 9 a.m. service.

The outfit had only been worn once before for her sister's bridal breakfast. She knew the second wear had to be special and couldn't think of better occasion than Easter Sunday.

"It's a celebration of Christ rising, I want to look good for that and feel good about it," said Mitchell.
