Dance notes: Ballet West’s ‘Couture in Motion’ fashion show, plus company promotions, and belly dancing for the birds
Ballet West announces its annual “Couture in Motion” fashion show featuring mulberry bags emerging designers whose creations are modeled by company dancers, plus local designers showcasing original tutu creations. Also, a new set of “Shoe-In” artworks, made from satin pointe shoes by invited Utah artists, will be available for purchase. Artist Alice Bain won first place in this year’s “Shoe-In” competition.

Dancers promoted
Ballet West Artistic Director Adam Sklute has announced nine company promotions and five new dancers for the upcoming season. Two additional Ballet West II female dancers mulberry handbag and one male dancer are yet to be named.
Principal artist » Katherine Lawrence has been promoted from senior soloist. She’ll join principal artists Michael Bearden, Christiana Bennett and Christopher Ruud.
Soloist » Arolyn Williams moves from demi-soloist.
Demi-soloist » Emily Adams and Allison DeBona have been promoted from artist.
Artist » Kuei-Hsien Chu has been promoted from new artist; Elizabeth Weldon moves from apprentice II to artist.
New artists » Tyler Gum advances from apprentice I; also Beckanne Sisk and Kathryn Hein, from Ballet West II, will join the ranks of new artists.
Apprentice II » Kathryn Meeusen advances from apprentice I.
Apprentice I » Elanor Bock, Trevor Naumann, and Jamie Lynn Schultz, all from Ballet West II, have earned the title of apprentice I.
Trainees » Ballet West II has accepted four trainees — Paige Adams, Kaya Aman, Kimberly Ballart and Zachary Prentice — from the Ballet West Academy.
Departing dancers » Soloists Annie Breneman and Jason Linsley; artists Silver Barkes, Elizabeth Murphy, Jennifer Robinson, and Kira Smith; and Ballet West II member Gabriella Hayes Moore have announced they will be leaving the company at the end of the current season.
